The SigmaTel is the correct device but I’ve never seen it referred to as a “Codec”. Inspiron , Wireless and Audio stopped working. My biggest concern is around the network driver. After this there has been no changes in device manager and still no audio device. We find that most of the install problems are because the chipset drivers were skipped. This machine should be Windows 7 64 bit capable. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down.

The chipset drivers define identify the devices on or attached to the motherboard and if the SigmaTel is not being detected correctly that can be one problem.

I reinstalled the drivers for the Soundblaster Audigy card but that made no difference. Back to Dell forum 2 total posts. Do a google search for that file and you will get a dimennsion of info on it.

The sound is there, but it cracks every now and then, cuts off, and on low-quality, old speakers, the sound is muffled when you first play it but that could be the speakers. Audio Drivers for Dimension Thanks for your help. There’s no devices displayed, but can you select the SigmaTel as the default device for any of the sound functions?
